The Art of Picking Yourself Back Up
The Art of Picking Yourself Back Up
Do you ever have moments, days, weeks, months, or even years that seem to blow up in your face?
I’m sure that in living through an unpredictable pandemic all of us have had that moment a time or two this past year alone.
Last week was a week like that for me. Which is why I completely tapped out on much of my communication with, well…everyone.
Last week I attended the second funeral and wake for my family in 2021, repairs started on a house I’m managing for a friend, I got a call from another friend that her sister was very ill and on top of that, my daughter got a letter from school saying she was possibly exposed to COVID. Oh yea, and my depression decided to go ba-nan-nas. UGGGGHHHHHH.
In weeks like this, all I can do is remind myself of the blessings in my life and get on to the best of my ability.
That’s all we all can do.
So in honor of my Blech Week last week, this week is all about picking yourself back up and moving forward.
After all, the action of moving forward, no matter how slow or fast, no matter how imperfectly, we do move forward!
A colleague and dear friend of mine is fond of saying,
“If you only improve 10% this year and 10% next year, you’ll still be 100% ahead of all the people who did nothing”.
So it’s ok if you didn’t get all your todo list today. It’s ok if life is in the middle of making an “under construction” site out of you without your knowledge or consent. It’s ok if you just can’t slay today. You will tomorrow. It’s the tomorrow that matters.
When tomorrow becomes today, pick yourself off, and get back to being even more fabulous than you were yesterday.
When I feel like life has a boot thoroughly pushed up my backside, I put on a dress, slap on some red lipstick, and do at least one small thing that will move me towards my goals. Sometimes that’s making one call or writing one email. But that’s one more thing that I didn’t get done yesterday.
What helps you get back on track when you feel like you just can’t get ahold on life? Share in the comments!
Live in grace my friends,
